Seemingly one may have boundless knowledge from studies and reflection but if one is not attuned to knowing what mind is, then one is not able to tame the enemy of destructive emotions. ~ Longchenpa
The Buddha taught freedom from suffering rests on three vital points: decreasing negative acts, increasing positive acts and taming the mind. The meditation practice of shamatha, or peaceful abiding, is the fundamental practice for taming the mind practiced by all schools of Buddhism.
From beginning less time we have searched outwardly for happiness. Shamatha allows us to take a break from the ceaseless movements of our body, speech and mind. It allows us to go inward and gain deeper recognition of our own nature, uncluttered by our suppositions, hopes and fears. Learning to rest in one’s nature is the path of liberation.
Based on Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche’s 2013 teachings on Taming the Mind, this programs includes instruction on how to meditate, recognize and work with obstacles, and the different stages of resting the mind. Not just for beginners, these teachings can enhance even the most seasoned practioner’s meditation.
