Heartwood has announced the return of Her Eminence Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche for two days of teaching in the Heartwood Skylight Room August 15-16, 2015. The event is sponsored by Ösel Ling Mindrolling International, formerly Tsogyaling Meditation Center. Last year’s program was the first time in seven years that Rinpoche returned to the Chicago area, and over 250 people attended her program.
Rinpoche will teach on “The Nine Journeys to Awakened Mind.” The program is open to and appropriate for everyone, regardless of background or previous connection to Buddhism. The official description of the program is as follows:
The Buddhist path helps us access our innate openness, compassion, and wisdom. We need to learn how best to work with the many teachings and practices it offers. The Nine Yanas (or Journeys) provides an overview of the teachings, placing them in the context of our motivation, understanding, and readiness, and illuminates which skillful means will be most helpful at a particular time. Studying the Nine Yanas provides the perspective necessary to make the most effective use of every opportunity in the journey toward awakened mind. This is helpful for everyone, whether you are new to the path or have been traveling it for a while.
Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche is recognized as one of the preeminent Tibetan Buddhist Masters teaching in the West today. She returns to Evanston with a new relationship to the local community. Last year, the Board of Tsogyaling Meditation Center asked Rinpoche to take over guidance of the center and she accepted. In March of 2015, the Center’s name changed to Ösel Ling and was placed under the umbrella of Mindrolling International, whose vision is to preserve and transmit in their purist form the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism.
Nancy Floy, Owner of Heartwood and member of the Board of Directors of Ösel Ling, believes this is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in a genuine, open, compassionate approach to oneself and others. “Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche is the real deal; she is completely devoted to bringing benefit to others by sharing the ancient wisdom teachings of Tibetan Buddhism with whomever has the ear to hear them. Her English is better than mine. She understands our western minds so well and communicates the teachings with tremendous clarity, warmth and compassionate humor. Everyone who attends these teachings will be glad they did. I am certain of it!”
The program begins at 9:00am on Saturday, August 15 and ends at 5:00pm on Sunday, August 16. The full weekend registration fee is $165 if registration is completed before July 1. After this date, the fee is $185.00. One-day-only rates are $90.00. You can register or obtain more information by visiting the Heartwood website: www.heartwoodcenter.com. According to Ösel Ling Resident Director Julie Heegaard, housing assistance and some scholarships are available. Interested individuals should email her at eventdirector@heartwoodcenter.com.
