Heartwood Sangha is pleased to announce that Lama Rod Owens will offer teachings and guidance the weekend of March 31 to April 2. An author, activist, and authorized Lama in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, Lama Rod calls himself a “Black Buddhist Southern Queen.” A leading voice in a new generation of Buddhist teachers, he is the co-founder of Bhumisparsha, a Buddhist tantric practice and study community that is helping shape a new and vibrant American Vajrayana.
Lama Rod holds a Master of Divinity in Buddhist Studies from Harvard Divinity School where he focused on the intersection of social change, identity, and spiritual practice. He is the author of Love and Rage: The Path of Liberation Through Anger, and a co-author of Radical Dharma, Talking Race, Love, and Liberation, which explores race in the context of American Buddhist communities, with a new book coming out next year.
Stay tuned for more specifics about this exciting visit. Lama Rod will teach at Heartwood in conjunction with a visit and talk at Northwestern University. We are grateful to Dr. Sarah Jacoby for helping to make this opportunity possible. Help us spread the word!
