Restorative Sleep with Chi Gong

Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 pm, September 22 through November 10; first four sessions in the Classroom, last four sessions in the Skylight room

Chi Gong, sometimes called the mother of Tai Chi, is a form of exercise and IMG_4982moving meditation invented in China thousands of years ago to strengthen the body, calm the mind, and encourage the free flow of chi (the life force). Chi Gong may help with high blood pressure, sense of balance, depression, mental focus, stress management, lack of energy, and sleep problems. In fact, because of its ability to relax the body, calm the mind, and encourage the flow of chi, practitioners of Chinese medicine have used Chi Gong (along with acupuncture and herbology) to address insomnia for hundreds of years.

Restorative Sleep Chi Gong falls into this ancient tradition. This form, developed with the guidance of Grandmaster Hongchao Zhang of Chicago’s Chinese Gong-Fu Institute, focuses on simple, powerful, purposeful movements that emphasize deep, gentle breathing, slow, repeated motions of the body, and movement of chi from the head (where many of us get stuck with anxiety, repetitive thoughts, or mental busyness that interferes with relaxation) through the body and out the soles of the feet. This encourages a feeling of groundedness that promotes relaxation and improved sleep.

The form is simple enough to enable students of all ages and skill levels to follow along from the very beginning, and is easy to memorize. My goal is to enable students to learn the form quickly, reinforce it through repetition, and leave the eight-week course able to do Restorative Sleep Chi Gong effectively at home, resulting in better quality sleep.

Michelle Bobier

Hello and be well!  My name is Michelle Bobier.  I have been studying Tai Chi and Chi Gong for 24 years with Master Hongchao Zhang, one of the leading Chinese martial arts masters in America; Master Zhang awarded me a Sixth Duan in Chi Gong in 2015.  Additionally, I am a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist who completed the 700-hour BCST training at 3rd Coast Craniosacral of Evanston.  Additionally, I studied lymphatic work at the School of Inner health in Manitou Springs, Colorado.  The three modalities come together in my wellness practice, reSource Wellness, in Wilmette.  My mission is to create a space where people can feel a sense of safety, peace, comfort and support; tap into their resources for healing; and achieve deep rest that can lead to profound change.  If you would like information about Chi Gong, craniosacral, or lymphatic work, please feel free to visit my website, below.
