Kinesis:

Based on movement, Kinesis is an attempt to free myself from preciousness and let each painting breathe. Without any plans or sketches, each painting is done in a single sitting. I allow something outside of myself to move me and I work non-stop until the movement has finished.

I love every painting in the series, but to let the work breathe I want them to have a life beyond my hands. I want my paintings to find new homes and enrich people’s lives. Like everything in nature and in life, you will find that your painting has something different to show you every day.

I work in the healing arts, visual art, and music. Through each medium I pose questions but I also offer solutions and optimism for human life. I seek to continually develop the grace of my movements and by extension the impact that my work has on the life that surrounds and penetrates me.  Each art form is also a gateway that connects me to other people, cultures and corners of the world in a way that I could never achieve solely through socializing. I hope that my work has something of value to offer to you and yours.

Pandemic Art:

My creative journey began with a bowl.

I was visiting the Chicago Turkish Festival a number of years ago when I fell in love with the pottery of Cappadocia. A bowl inspired me to attempt to recreate its beauty and intricacy on a 3’x4′ canvas. That interest lasted a couple of days, the canvas went into my storage room, and life zoomed on. Fast forward 18 months to March, 2020. COVID-19 had disrupted life as we knew it. My family was all at home for the foreseeable future, and what could I do? Binge Netflix? Bake sourdough bread? Learn to knit?

Nah! “I have a giant canvas collecting dust. What else do I have around the house? Pretty paper? Paint? Gems? Let’s finish this!”
And that is how my Pandemic Art was born. The canvas took me 3 months to complete, but I was exhilarated with the results. I swore I would never work on anything that big again (I did), but I dove head first in to all kinds of other projects – whatever I was thinking about that day, whatever I loved, whatever inspired me.
There are now 72 pandemic pieces and counting. As long as I have ideas, they will be made. Thank you for allowing me to share them with you.
