We’re Out Walking 2018

Wednesdays, 7:00pm to 8:00pm (except on July 4)

WOW is a health and fitness program that aims to create a sense of community for those who live, work and play in Evanston.

The cost to participate is $5 for the 12-week program and includes group walks, health and fitness classes, a t-shirt, and more!

May 23: Gentle Integrated Movement with Colleen Hubbard, MSW, ACHT

Open yourself to freely and joyfully moving your body with intention. It’s not about the effort, it’s about the ease.

May 30: Paths to Emotional Well-Being with Marsha Smith, LCSW

This class will help participants to: Hear your inner felt sense to discover more feelings and energy your body is holding; Learn more self-compassion; Describe what you feel without judging it; Discover how compassion and curiosity open new possibilities; Become mindfully present to be calmer and more grounded

June 6: Self-Shiatsu for Low Back, Hips and Legs with WinterJade Forest, CI (AOBTA)

Certain point along the energy meridians in your body can relieve pain and fatigue in your joints and muscles. Learn how to apply pressure with your hands, fingers and thumbs to reduce discomfort and refresh your stamina.

June 13: Moving Towards a Meaningful Life with Mary Jo Graden, LCSW

Every move we make on a daily basis is a move towards our valued life or a move away. Learn more about what your deepest held values are and adjust your ‘moves’ to be sure they are more towards moves than away moves.

June 20: Massage and Self-Care with Kathy Kessenich, LMT

Learn about the many benefits of massage therapy as well as some self-care techniques you can use to ease your sore muscles.

June 27: Movement and Health with Char Christian, L.Ac, Herbalist

July 4: NO CLASS

July 11: Mindful Movement with Melissa Sanchez, LCPC, BC-DMT, GL-CMA

July 18: Therapeutic Self-Massage with Sarah B. McLaughlin, LMT, RYT

Join Sarah B. McLaughlin for quick and practical tips on how to alleviate pain and discomfort. We will use simple tools like tennis balls and a chair to help you craft a self-care routine for before and after exercise. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in easily and bring your sense of humor as we get ourselves into some funny looking (but effective) positions. We will discuss how to modify techniques for every body type and fitness level, and leave feeling more confident in putting together a helpful healing routine for ourselves.

July 25: Yoga for Walkers with Becky Liston, PT, RYT

Please come and join others in an hour-long yoga practice for walkers! This class is designed for those new to yoga, but all experience levels are welcome!

August 1: Hormones and Your Health: An Integrative and Restorative Approach with Rowena Chua, M.D.

August 8: Healing Comes from Within with Kenton Anderson, ND

It’s not the pill, it’s the terrain! You can’t grow healthy food in quicksand and you can’t grow health in toxic soup. This interactive presentation seeks to present the rules of health in a way that doesn’t make compliance with them cumbersome and overwhelming. You may think you know the rules – come join us for this fun-filled hour and see if you really do.
