Rest® Yoga Nidra is a secular form of meditation developed by Richard Miller, PhD. This practice merges the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra meditation, translated as “Sleep of the Yogi,” within the psychological framework of the Western mind. This trauma-informed practice will usher you through 8 levels of consciousness, presented one step at a time, in order to develop safe and intentional familiarity with your internal landscape. The end result can be an experience of joy, inner resource for aid in exploring difficult sensations, increased body awareness, exploration of thoughts/emotions/beliefs and conjuring a relationship to your heart’s desire in life.
What makes iRest® meditation different than other forms of meditation? This practice is done lying down and seeks to induce the deepest relaxation possible, even sleep! It is a guided experience, with instruction given throughout the entire 35-minute practice. In addition to the practice itself, each gathering includes discussion of the underlying philosophy and ample time to ask questions.
The New Year is often full of “new” opportunities to try something different. I realize there are ample choices to pick from and explore; whether it be diet, exercise, wellness or a myriad of other practices we all wish played a more prevalent and dedicated role in our daily rituals. All of these methods are valid and needed in our overwhelmed, stressed and demanding world. Why choose iRest® Yoga Nidra? I can only speak from my experience. I truly believe one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves in modern times is the opportunity and space to deeply relax, focus on our inner life and learn how to better respond, communicate with and relate to this experience we call Life. iRest® Yoga Nidra is the tool that has blessed me with deeper awareness of my habits and patterns, while also providing guidance for how to make better choices for my health and happiness. What more could I ask for! I am deeply called to share this practice with my community of loved ones and those I have yet to meet.
