Friday, May 15, 2015 6:00 pm—8:00 pm (public talk: “The Four Reminders That Turn the Mind Toward the Dharma”)
Saturday, May 16, 2015 9:00 am—5:00 pm
Sunday, May 17, 2015 9:00 am—5:00 pm
After his enlightenment the Buddha taught his direct experience of the Truth in gradual stages, allowing his students to develop their individual capacity for insight and then to slowly refine this. Reflective of this wisdom, the Vajrayana path does not stand alone but is steeped in the fundamental teachings of the Hinayana path of self-liberation and then enriched by the Mahayana teachings on genuine love and compassion for all beings. This weekend program will further explore the relationship between these three yanas or vehicles to deepen our understanding of the Buddhist path.
With this foundation, the skillfulness of the Vajrayana cultivates the personal understanding that enlightenment is not something far away and needing to be gained from somewhere else. Instead we come to realize that it is ingrained in us as our birthright, our essential true nature that needs only to be uncovered. Through beginning to look at the skillful methods of the Vajrayana, we will also explore how they impact our view of the world and our lives.
Led by Lopön Barbara Ryan, Senior Student of Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche, and the Head of the Office of Practice and Study at Mindrolling Lotus Garden, this program is open to all who are interested in the Buddhist path and will include teachings, group meditation, individual instruction, and discussion.
